The most talented water onmyoji of her generation, Masago helped to train the other water users in the Goko Clan during the Heian period, including giving lessons to Shiranui. Masago was chosen as one of the senior appretices that was in contention to inherit the Goko Clan, however she was one of the view that was uncomfortable with the cruelty of the clan, and planned to elope with Kamon, her secret lover. Word of her planned escape reached the Goko Clan Master who ordered that Masago be killed rather than allow her to get away.

[Spoiler: For 900 years it was assumed that Masago was one of the many victims that was killed in the waning days of the Goko Clan, however Kamon is shocked to discover that Shiranui has kept her lifeless corpse all these centuries. Masago is in a lifeless-yet-undying state and Shiranui, who lusted after her, refuses to surrender her to Kamon.]
